Mini Competition
Mini Competition #1: Send us a photo of your favourite international dish (or one that you're keen to try) and briefly share why.
āMy favorite international dish is Vietnamese pho because it embodies patience, tradition, and harmony ā a slow-simmered broth that tells a story with every sip. It reminds me that greatness takes time and that balance is the key to both food and life. In every bowl, there's a blend of culture, care, and the quiet power of simplicity done well.ā
- Landon O, Mead High School
Mini Competition #2: What cultural practices or traditions do you admire and why?
āI wanted to share with you a Mexican cultural practice that I deeply admire: DĆa de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.
Celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, this tradition honors the lives of loved ones who have passed away. What I find most beautiful about it is the way it embraces deathānot with fear or sadness, but with love, remembrance, and joy. Families create altars called ofrendas, decorated with photos, candles, flowers, and favorite foods of the deceased. They also visit cemeteries, bringing music, food, and stories to celebrate the lives of those they miss.
I admire how this practice keeps memories alive and turns grief into something deeply meaningful and even joyful. Itās a powerful reminder that those who have passed on are never truly gone as long as we remember them.
This tradition has taught me a lot about how culture can shape our perspective on life and death in beautiful ways.ā
- Cayden K, Mead High School
Mini Competition #3: What are some of the best tips you've found for learning a new language quickly?
āI think that the best tips I have used for language learning are daily exposure and talking out loud. For me, I previously did not study Spanish and French everyday, but through ImmerseMe and other apps, I was able to consistently practice and immerse myself in these foreign languages. Additionally, I find it useful to consistently speak out loud, even if it seems I do not know enough to do so. I like to take videos of myself speaking, and listen back to them later to compare my speaking to native pronunciation. Moreover, this speaking exercise makes me more comfortable to talk to native speakers. I like to talk to myself about my day, my friends, and my hobbies.ā
- Abigail R, Ramsey High School

LANGUAGES AVAILABLE
What do students do?
Students have one week to earn points by successfully responding to native speakers within contextual virtual reality-based 360° video recordings.
Examples include: ordering a baguette in Paris, buying a bento box in Tokyo or trying tapas at a Spanish restaurant.
ImmerseMe⢠has been designed by a team of global language educators (see list) with the vision of creating āthe worldās best academic language toolā.
Content is differentiated into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Learners are progressed through scaffolded learning modes: Vocab > Grammar > Pronunciation > Typing > Spelling > Translation.
Students are tested on their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Choose from over 3,000 interactive scenarios across 12 languages: Arabic, English, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
ImmerseMe⢠will prepare students with the practical language skills they need to thrive as a global citizen.
Teachers can follow student progress from a Teacher Dashboard and assign lessons as tasks.
Certificates and prizes (see below) are available to every student who earns more than 250 points.
We challenged students to 'show off their ImmerseMe skills' during the inaugural ImmerseMe Games (21-28 May 2020)

TEACHER FEEDBACK
āThe ImmerseMe Games were a fantastic opportunity for my quieter students to shine in an environment where they didnāt have to worry about anyone else around them.
They were able to speak up in a comfortable environment, which enabled them to build confidence in expressing themselves in German.
A number of my sometimes less engaged students connected with the technology aspect of the ImmerseMe Games and practiced their German almost as a side-effect of being enthralled in the technology, which was really powerful.ā
- Heike Barker, German teacher, Cheltenham Primary School (VIC, Australia)
